Hound (short coat) Dog

Flopsy the Dog needs a home

Hi, I’m Flopsy! I’m looking for a very special forever family. That’s because I have some special needs. I was shot in the head a while ago. Maybe I wasn’t a very good hunting dog? I don’t remember. I just know someone found me and I was in bad shape and they took me to the animal shelter. The shelter called Rescue Rovers and they said they would take care of me so I came to live in my foster home a few months ago. My foster family has taken good care of me and now it’s time for me to find my forever people.

I still have a bullet in my neck. They couldn’t take it out. And it maybe did some damage to my brain. But I’m still okay! My foster mama says I’m really funny, in a spastic sort of way, and I LOVE to play with other dogs! I also LOVE food! Sometimes I get so excited I accidentally bite your hand taking it from you. I’ve been told to be soft…but I forget. I have a little girl in my foster home and I like her a lot, but my foster mom says I should find people with older kids in case I might knock them over or bite them trying to get their food. I wouldn’t hurt them on purpose, but I do really like food…

I’m crate trained! My people give me all my meals and my treats in my kennel so I know it’s a good place, and I hang out in there while they are gone at work. That’s a good place for me, because I LOVE to chew on things! In my crate I chew on a nice nyabone. But if I’m left out I find shoes to chew because they smell SO GOOD! Even when my mom puts them all away I can find a shoe. I have a hound nose and that’s my favorite smell! So a crate is good. And chew toys in my crate make me happy. But I don’t sleep in my crate! I sleep in a pile with my people and the other dogs on their bed! It’s the best.

That’s the only kind of cuddling I really like. Doggy/people pile in bed at night. If you’re really still I will sit next to you for pets, but most of the time people make me a little nervous. Can you blame me? Dogs are my favorite, though! I absolutely, positively need a doggy sibling! Someone who will play with me lots and be a little patient, too, because sometimes I don’t notice when another dog wants to stop playing and I get annoying. I just love having a doggy best friend! No little fluffy ones, though, and no kitties, either. Because I might not have been a very good hunting dog…but I still think little animals look like treats!

Here’s some stuff about me that my mom says are my “negatives”. I’m partially deaf. I was shot above my ear. So it doesn’t hear very good. I don’t learn stuff very easily…or at all, sometimes. I don’t come when I’m called. So I will always need to be on leash or in a fenced yard. And you might have to come get me from the yard. Because I don’t remember to stop playing and come in. I can be noisy…I like to bay. It feels so good in my throat! Some hounds can be trained not to bay with an ecollar, but you can’t use one on me because of the bullet in my neck. Sometimes I’m clumsy and I walk into things. I’m potty trained…sort of. If you keep me on a schedule I will potty outside. But otherwise I will probably forget.

That’s it! I think I’m a super fun and pretty girl and I would really love to have a family of my own. If you think all my funny behaviors will be okay at your house, apply to meet me today at rescuerovers.org. And remember, I’m Flopsy!
